Day 84 is inspired by the novel, The Old Man and The Sea, by Ernest Hemingway. This ceramic mural is carved from Terra cotta clay. The vivid action of the waves broken by a marlin recreates the moment when Santiago hooks his formidable foe. The sculpture is a depiction of the values of patience and persistence, important attributes for an artist. The clay was dug out of clay pits at Continental Clay’s Martinsburg brick works. Washington Street Studios, Boliver-Harpers Ferry West Virginia, installed the sculpture at their gallery & studios. |
